Al Alfi PhD Fellowships in Applied Sciences and Engineering, Egypt

The Al Alfi PhD Fellowship in Applied Sciences and Engineering at the American University in Cairo (AUC) is now accepting applications. The program provides substantial financial support, including tuition coverage and stipends, for up to four years.

Applicants must be Egyptian nationals with a Master of Science degree in an engineering or science discipline, obtained from an accredited university. A minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale or an equivalent grade of “very good” is required. Eligibility

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject within the Science and Engineering disciplines offered by the university.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet all the following criteria:
    • Must be an Egyptian national.
    • Hold a Master of Science with a thesis track in an engineering or science discipline from an accredited university.
    • Meet AUC’s PhD graduate admissions requirements.
    • Have a minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale or very good (gayed geddan).
    • Submit a preliminarily proposed dissertation topic and a research outline that aligns with one or more of the national priority research areas.
    • Possess relevant scientific research background and experience.
    • Priority will be given to applicants who obtained their MSc from a national university outside Cairo and Alexandria.
    • Demonstrate financial need.

Benefits

The fellowship covers:

  • 83.3% of the tuition fees, equivalent to 15 credit hours per academic year.
  • Student services and activities fees.
  • A monthly stipend.
  • Research and conference grants.

Fellows are also expected to engage in professional training through teaching assistantships, contributing nine hours per week in the AUC Department of Science and Engineering. The fellowship is awarded for a maximum of four years, subject to a review every semester for satisfactory academic performance.
