Applicants of ASEAN countries: Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam can apply for these scholarships.
The fellowship aims to encourage appropriate talent and application of scientific inputs into policymaking in S&T ministries and promote a more cross-sectoral approach to applying evidence and data for evidence-based policymaking in their government.

Course Level: Fellowship is available for research program. The Fellowship provides opportunities for early career scientists who are citizens and residents of AMS to contribute their knowledge and analytical skills to their national governments.
Study Subject: Fellowship is awarded in the field of science and technology. More specially, Fellows will be hosted by entities that support technical work aligned with the following three ASEAN science and technology priority areas: Digital Economy, Innovative Startups, Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for UN SDGs
Scholarship Award: The ASEAN Science and Technology Fellowship will begin on or about 1 July 2019. A stipend of USD 1,200 per month for the 12 months of the Fellowship period will be granted. The stipend is intended to cover all costs of participating in the Fellowship (e.g., salary, room, board, insurance, etc.). Relocation support will not be provided. Travel costs for Fellows’ participation in the Annual Fellows Workshop in Jakarta at the start of their Fellowship year and other pre-approved events will be covered separately. Fellows must be available to participate in the Annual Fellows Workshop preceding the start of the Fellowship and are expected to participate full-time for all 12 Fellowship months.

Eligibility: The Fellowship is aimed at early career scientists who will use the experience to enhance and inform future career paths. Applicants should be less than 45 years of age as of 24 February 2019.

- Most successful applicants are at the Ph.D. level.

- Government scientists applying for this Fellowship must clearly articulate in their Essay Questions how the Fellowship will provide them with new opportunities and further their career development.

College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirements: The Fellowship anticipates that most Fellows will be at the Ph.D. level. Candidates with Master’s degrees must have at least five years of professional experience.
English language Requirements: Applicants must have excellent communication skills and attention to detail proven proficiency in the English language, the official language of ASEAN; Ability to convey scientific knowledge in broader, non-scientific contexts (i.e. able to present complex ideas or data in layman’s terms).
Supporting Material: Applicant profile: full name, contact information, and science and technology priority areas of interest (Digital Economy; Innovative Start-ups; or STI for UN SDGs). Fellows may apply for more than one thematic area of interest.
- Curriculum vitae (format provided in Appendix 1, not to exceed five single-spaced pages) including three names of referees for letters of recommendation. One of these should be from a person working in government or in a civil society organization. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for submitting three (3) reference letters.
- Essay Questions. Provide answers to the following five (5) questions, limiting responses to 400 words each:
- Describe a problem related to your chosen science and technology priority area* that you are keen to address. Give a clear explanation about the importance of this issue and the opportunities and challenges that your government is facing in this area.
- Why are you interested in participating in this Fellowship? How will this help you advance your career and realize your professional goals?
- Describe how you demonstrated your leadership skills, took on a leadership role on a project or activity, and/or worked to build consensus among differing viewpoints. Please also describe how your communication and interpersonal skill have helped you to solve the problem in those situations.
- This is an ASEAN-wide Fellowship. What do you see as the potential benefits of working within/through ASEAN? Please also describe what you anticipate as the potential challenges of doing so.
- If you are selected as a fellow to be embedded in your national line ministry or in an ASEAN body, please describe the outputs (e.g. conduct xx training activity for the community on xxx; produce xx policy paper on xxx; etc.) you aspire to complete for one-year fellowship program in relation with the thematic area(s) that you have selected above.
