This scholarship aims to support small-scale, high-impact projects in developing countries, aligning with Global Affairs Canada’s thematic priority areas for engagement.

The CFLI is directed towards projects predominantly conceptualized and designed by local partners. It serves as a platform to foster positive bilateral relations between Canada and recipient countries, nurturing local endeavors. With an average contribution ranging from $35,000 to $50,000 Canadian Dollars (CAD), the CFLI aims to empower local communities through impactful initiatives.

The Embassy/High Commission of Canada serves as the official diplomatic representation of Canada in Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Malawi. As a vital link between Canada and these countries, the embassy plays a crucial role in promoting bilateral relations, fostering cultural exchange, and facilitating cooperation in various areas, including trade, education, and development. Through its various programs and initiatives, the embassy works towards enhancing mutual understanding and collaboration between Canada and Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Malawi, while also providing consular services to Canadian citizens residing or traveling in these countries.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: Students from Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi are eligible to apply.

  • Admissible Criteria: Applicants must meet all specified criteria, including being a local non-governmental, community, or not-for-profit organization; local academic institutions; international non-governmental organizations; intergovernmental, multilateral, regional institutions; municipal, regional, or national government institutions; or Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations.

How to Apply

Interested organizations must follow a two-step process, starting with the submission of a concept note by April 30, 2024, at 23:59 (GMT+2). Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to submit a full proposal, addressing all questions and including a project budget. All applications must be completed in English or French and sent to [email protected].

Benefits

Successful applicants will receive funding ranging from $35,000 to $50,000 CAD to implement their proposed projects. Projects must be completed between the date of signature of the Contribution Agreement and February 28, 2025, with some exceptions for projects spanning two fiscal years.

The CFLI prioritizes projects aligning with thematic priorities such as inclusive governance, growth for all, gender equality, empowerment of women and girls, and environmental sustainability. Additionally, applicants are required to conduct a gender-based analysis to ensure projects contribute to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, in line with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy.
