Christchurch Educated Skills Scholarships For Indian Graduates, 2016

Education New Zealand and the Canterbury Development Corporation, the economic development agency of the Christchurch City Council are offering scholarship for Indian graduates wishing to study at postgraduate level in Christchurch. Scholarships are awarded in specific disciplines which are aligned to clearly identified skill shortage areas associated with the Christchurch rebuild programme. Scholarships worth NZ$104,000 will be awarded to ten top Indian students. The application deadline for semester 1 2016 intake is 30th September 2015 and semester 2 2016 intake is 15th March 2016.

Study Subject(s): Scholarships are awarded in specific disciplines which are aligned to clearly identified skill shortage areas associated with the rebuild programme such as Construction, Engineering, ICT and Science.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for postgraduate (Level 7 and above) study in Christchurch at approved institutions including the University of Canterbury, Lincoln University, Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology and others.
Scholarship Provider: Education New Zealand and the Canterbury Development Corporation, the economic development agency of the Christchurch City Council.

Eligibility: Christchurch Educated Skills Scholarships are available to graduates of reputable tertiary institutions in India who:
-Already hold an undergraduate qualification related to one of the identified skill shortage areas
-Are able to meet all student visa requirements in order to undertake postgraduate study in New Zealand
-Can obtain an offer of place for an approved programme of study from one of the participating  Christchurch tertiary institutions.
-Applications may be made directly with Christchurch Educated or through a New Zealand Specialist Education Agent based in India.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Indian students can apply for this scholarship.

Scholarship Description: Christchurch New Zealand is experiencing an economic boom as a result of the $30 billion being invested in rebuilding New Zealand’s second largest city. As a result of the unprecedented scale of the rebuild programme, the city’s economy needs new migrants with specific skills and knowledge to address critical labour shortages. The Christchurch Educated Skills Scholarship programme is targeted at Indian graduates wishing to study at post graduate level in Christchurch in specific disciplines which are aligned to clearly identified skill shortage areas associated with the rebuild programme such as Construction, Engineering, ICT and Science. After completing a post graduate qualification at Level 7 or above in Christchurch the Christchurch  Educated Skills Scholarship recipients will have opportunities to undertake internships or gain  employment in companies which are experiencing growth due to the current economic climate.

Number of award(s): Ten skills scholarships will be offered.

Duration of award(s): The scholarships will be offered over 2 intakes for students starting in semester 1 and semester 2 2016.

What does it cover? There is a maximum scholarship pool of NZ$104,000 available for suitably qualified and experienced students. The Christchurch Mayoral Scholarships (2 X $12,000 each) are presented by Mayor Lianne Dalziel to two students who display outstanding merit in their qualifications and professional fields. In addition, there are a further eight $10,000 Christchurch Educated Skills Scholarships available for students who demonstrate exemplary standards in their qualifications.

Selection Criteria: Not Known

Notification: For semester 1 2016 intake scholarship will be awarded in early November 2015 and for semester 2 2016 intake in early June 2016.

How to Apply: Please submit your application directly to your chosen approved provider along with all necessary application materials the provider requires.  The provider will forward its vetted selection to the Canterbury Development Corporation Scholarships Office within 5 working days of the closing period, 30 September 2015 or 30 April 2016.
