International Doctoral Fellowship in Sociology or Political Science, France

The Max Planck Sciences Po Center on Coping with Instability in Market Societies invites applications for a doctoral fellowship in sociology or political science. It is a 3-year contract starting in September 2020.

The center welcomes independent proposals on topics situated in economic sociology, political economy, economic or political history. The applicant’s interests should fall within the scope of MaxPo’s research program and the project should lay out the fit.

Successful candidates will receive a three-year doctoral employment contract starting in September 2020. MaxPo doctoral fellows will have a fully equipped shared office and full access to the library and research facilities of Sciences Po.

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Fellowship is awarded mainly in the field of Sociology or Political Science.
  • Admissible Criteria: The candidate will hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) and have received training in the following disciplines: sociology or political science, with additional training in related fields such as economics, history, management, or philosophy. She or he should have experience in qualitative and quantitative methods. There is no nationality preference. However, a firm command of English and working knowledge of French or German are required.

  • Admission Requirements: For admission, applicants should have an academic record of excellence and a
    strong command of research methods.
  • Language Requirement: All international applicants for whom English is not the native tongue must provide proof of competence in the English language.


The fellowship amount is € 2,188 / month (gross salary, about 1,600€ net).
