University of Leicester is inviting applications for a doctoral studentship in education (EdD) starting from October 2015. The studentship is available for part-time registration and is payable as a UK/EU tuition fee waiver, which covers the part-time fee. The fee waiver is payable over five years and is available to suitable UK/EU and International (i.e., outside the EU) applicants. The application deadline is 1 July 2015.

Eligibility:
-An Honours Degree with a minimum classification of 2.1 or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution
-A Masters degree in a relevant subject (or show evidence of achieving this by October 2015)
-Sufficient experience to undertake the proposed research – i.e., an appropriate background in research or academic qualifications, professional experience, and supporting references
-Standard English language requirements (IELTS with a minimum overall score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 6.0 in each component; or TOEFL internet-based 90/120 minimum)
-Under UK immigration laws, student visas are not issued for part-time programmes; international applicants would be expected to remain based in their normal country of residence
-Applicants must be able to start in October 2015

Scholarship Description: The University of Leicester School of Education is delighted to be able to offer a new Doctorate in Education (EdD) studentship, supported by the Sir Robert and Lady Hilary Burgess Research and Teaching Fund. Inspired by the spirit and commitment shown by supporters of the University, Professor Sir Robert Burgess (Vice-Chancellor of the University, 1999-2014) and Lady Hilary Burgess (Director of Studies and Professor of Education in the School of Education) established the Fund with a personal donation. The Fund, which will make a lasting impact, will support teaching excellence by providing scholarships to fund a student to study for a Doctorate in Education (EdD). The Fund will enable our leading teachers to improve their practice, develop curricula and improve the quality of education for future generations.

What does it cover? The studentship is available for part-time registration and is payable as a UK/EU tuition fee waiver, which covers the part-time fee. The fee waiver is payable over five years and is available to suitable UK/EU and International (i.e., outside the EU) applicants. Please note though that the award covers tuition fees at the UK/EU rate only; international applicants (and those not eligible to pay UK/EU tuition fees) must demonstrate at the time of their application that they can fund the difference in tuition fee rates.
