Eligibility:
The candidate should be qualified to at least first degree level with an upper second or first class honours degree in Engineering, Geology or Physics. The studentship will cover University fees and a maintenance grant of ?13,590 per annum for 3.5 years. Eligibility for this funding is in accordance with Research Council eligibility criteria which are described in detail at: http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/funding/students/pages/eligibility.aspx. Thus candidates should be UK/EU citizens and have no restrictions on the length of stay in the UK

Scholarship Description: An EPSRC funded Industrial Case Studentship Award is available for a suitably qualified candidate to conduct research leading to the award of a PhD degree in the field of geotechnical engineering as part of the Geotechnical Group, Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge (www. civ.eng.cam.ac.uk/geotech_new/geotech.htm). The award is sponsored by Arup (www.arup.com) with whom the student will work closely in the research to numerical modelling of deep geomechanics problems.
