With the aim of providing a world-class education to highly qualified students, The University of Texas at Austin is providing Freeman Scholars Internship Program for the academic session 2024/2025.

Freeman Scholars is a prestigious award aimed at fostering a deeper understanding between the United States and Asia through funding immersive educational experiences. The primary objective of the program is to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the United States and East Asia by providing generous funding to undergraduate and graduate students completing internships in East and Southeast Asia.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the University of Texas at Austin
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  • Enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin as a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student
  • Maintain good academic and disciplinary standing during the entire application process and internship
  • Participate in an in-person internship of at least six weeks
  • Intern in one of the eligible Asian countries listed above.

How to Apply

All applicants must apply through the Global Assist. Applicants do not need to have their internship confirmed before applying, but confirmation is required before stipend disbursement. Self-sourced internship applicants are also welcome, but they must register their travel and purchase UT Overseas Insurance if selected.

Benefits

Selected Freeman Scholars receive generous funding to support their internships in East and Southeast Asia. Additionally, upon their return, scholars design projects to share their experiences with the UT community, fostering greater cultural understanding and awareness
