Fulbright- Fondazione Falcone-NIAF Scholarship in Criminology, 2017-2018

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF), Fondazione Falcone and Fulbright are pleased to offer Fulbright Fondazione Falcone-NIAF Scholarship in Criminology. The scholarship is available for American and Italian student to carry out research for a period of six to nine months beginning in August of 2017.

This award aims to promote the exchange of the values of the rule of law and legality among young people and to combat the presence of the mafia culture in today’s society.

The mission of NIAF is to serve as a resource for the Italian American Community; to preserve the Italian American heritage and culture; to promote and inspire a positive image and legacy of Italian Americans: and to strengthen and empower ties between the United States and Italy.

Candidate from the USA must have a proficient knowledge of Italian language and candidate from Italy must have a proficient knowledge of English at the time of application.

Course Level: The American student will work with the “Fondazione Giovanni e Francesca Falcone” in Palermo, Sicily and the Italian student will conduct research at a prestigious university in the United States.

Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded to carry out research in criminology.

Scholarship Award: The amount of the award will depend on the length of the participant’s stay.

Scholarship can be taken in Italy (American student) and USA (Italian student)

Eligibility: The ideal candidate for this award is a student with future plans for an academic/professional career in the field of Law and Criminology as well as a special interest in relevant issues related to Sicily and the promotion of the rule of law. Candidates with projects involving interdisciplinary studies related to Criminology, such as Law, Economics, Sociology, Education, Anthropology, are encouraged to submit an application. Preference will be given to graduate students.

Nationality: Students from USA and Italy can apply for this scholarship.

College Admission Requirement

Test Requirement: No

English Language Requirement: Candidate from the USA must have a proficient knowledge of Italian language and candidate from Italy must have a proficient knowledge of English at the time of application.

How to Apply: Fulbright Student Scholarships are awarded through an annual merit-based competition administered in the US at the national level by the Institute of International Education – IIE, in collaboration with the Fulbright Commission in Italy.

Application Deadline: Deadline for American applicants is October 11th, 2016 and for Italian applicants is February 16th, 2017.
