The Hitachi Scholarship Foundation is inviting applications for scholarship program for postgraduate study in Japan. These scholarships are awarded to faculty members of the universities in Southeast Asian countries. These scholarships are for the faculty members, who wish to continue teaching and research at their universities after graduation, to Japan as part of their human development programs. Scholarships are offered in the field of science and technology. The application deadline is October 31, 2014.

Eligibility: Eligibility for the program is limited to faculty members up to the age of 35 for PhD degree candidates in the fields of science and technology and each applicant must be recommended by a senior staff at their home university as a potential candidate for international research collaboration after graduation.
Be faculty members of one of the eligible universities stated below.
-Have been nominated by their university’s presidential office, with the approval and recommendation of the faculty and the department.
-Have received a specific and confirmed invitation from a professor at a Japanese university, who will act as the host professor to collaborate with and/or advise the applicant until graduation or the completion of the program.

Scholarship Open for International Students: The applicants of (Southeast Asian countries) Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand can apply for these scholarships.

Scholarship Description: The Hitachi Scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for Southeast Asian universities to send faculty members, who wish to continue teaching and research at their universities after graduation, to Japan as part of their human development programs. Recipients of this award are invited to attend Japanese public and private graduate schools that have close relationships with Southeast Asian universities. The Scholarship provides financial support and personal assistance and consultation.

Duration of award(s): Scholarship is offered for three year duration.

What does it cover? The Foundation will support the following costs and expenses.
-Travel expenses: Economy class round-trip airfare.
-Stipend: ¥180,000 a month
– Housing allowance (at cost but maximum amount per month): Any place in Japan with or without Family ¥40,000
-Travel expenses for field study: ¥50,000 per year upon request from host professor
-Tuition and other school expenses listed in the following: At cost.
-Expenses to make oral presentation at an international conference: At cost max. ¥200,000 per year upon request from host professor.

Notification: Notification of final decisions will be made to the presidential offices, and award notices will be sent to each successful candidate in June.

How to Apply: The Foundation shall mail application forms every year in June to the presidential office of each university. Each applicant shall submit the application to his/her university’s presidential office with all requested information. The Foundation will accept applications and nomination letters from the presidential offices until the end of October. No direct application from individual will be accepted.

 Scholarship Application Deadline: The application deadline is October 31, 2014.
