The James McCune Smith Scholarships proudly announce a unique opportunity for Black UK domiciled students to engage in transformative PhD research at the University in any research area where supervision is available. These scholarships aim to provide an enriched academic experience by offering external mentors, placements, leadership training, community-building activities, and networking opportunities.

The James McCune Smith PhD Scholarships are designed to encourage Black students from diverse backgrounds to pursue postgraduate studies. Dr. Dwayne Spiteri, a research associate in the School of Physics & Astronomy, shares his experience, highlighting how the scholarship addresses the under-representation of Black students at the research level.
