JCU Postgraduate Research Scholarships for Australian and International Students, 2016

James Cook University (JCU) is offering postgraduate research scholarships for both domestic and international students. Scholarship is awarded to undertake a higher degree by research (HDR) programme.

The main objective of the university is to provide high quality, comprehensive educational and training opportunities that are compatible to changing needs of the students.

If applicant’s native language is not English they are required to demonstrate their English language proficiency undertaking a test such as Academic IELTS, TOEFL or Pearson (PTE Academic). Other English language tests may be accepted. If they have successfully completed two years of full-time study in which the language of instruction was English, this may also satisfy the English requirement.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR).

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded in all subjects available at the university.

Scholarship Award: Applicants must not be in receipt of major stipend funding (>75% of APA rate i.e. approximately $18,000 per year)

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for this scholarship:
-The applicant must have submitted a completed scholarship application by the deadline for that scholarship
-have submitted a completed application for admission into a Higher Degree by Research, or be currently enrolled in an eligible degree at JCU.
-demonstrate English Language proficiency at Band 3a by the application deadline if not already enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research at JCU.
-have an Advisory Panel which complies with the HDR Supervision Procedure
-not be in receipt of major stipend funding (>75% of APA rate i.e. approximately $18,000 per year)
-be based on a JCU campus (enrolled as an ‘internal’ candidate) to undertake the degree unless formal approval has been granted to be off-campus
-apply to be, or currently be enrolled as a full-time candidate unless formal approval has been granted for part-time enrolment
-have completed the degree being used to contribute to the scholarship score and degree entry criteria by 21 January 2016 (grades finalised and completion of all degree requirements confirmed by institution)
-possess at least one of the qualifications specified in Section 3 – Degree and Performance scoring
-include a completed and approved AIMS@JCU form (AIMS@JCU scholarship applicants only)
-have an undergraduate degree of at least 3 years duration if applying on the basis of a Graduate Diploma or Certificate in Research Methods.

Nationality: This postgraduate research scholarship is available for both domestic and international students.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have an undergraduate degree of at least 3 years duration if applying on the basis of a Graduate Diploma or Certificate in Research Methods.

English language Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate English Language proficiency at Band 3a by the application deadline if not already enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research at JCU. Band 3a means that student must have an IELTS of 7.0 with no component lower than 6.5, or the equivalent in the TOEFL or Pearson tests.

Supporting Material: All competitive JCU scholarship applicants must ensure they have:
-Consulted the Scoring Scheme and Process for 2016 Competitive JCU Scholarships to check their eligibility and competitiveness
Prepared all the documentation that will be required for uploading electronically, including:
-Copies of all testamurs and transcripts (translated into English if required) and the grading scheme for the University and Degree;
-Copies of HERDC eligible publications;
-Proof of English Language Proficiency at Band 3a level;
-The Professional Experience form if they wish professional experience to be considered;
-Proof of any relevant prizes or awards they have received; and
-AIMS@JCU form if applying for an AIMS@JCU scholarship.

How to Apply: Applications for competitive JCU scholarships are online only and must be submitted using eStudent (refer ‘My Scholarships’ tab).
-Prospective JCU Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates must first have submitted their online application for candidature (i.e. entry to a JCU HDR program). For further information about the candidature application process, visit the GRS How to Apply webpage.
-Existing JCU HDR candidates are able to apply directly via eStudent.

Application Deadline: Prospective applicants should note the closing dates for submission of Scholarship applications:
-Round 1: Applications for Round 1 close at midnight, 31st August AEST.
-Round 2: Applications for Round 2 close at midnight, 31st October AEST.
