IIT Madras Invites Applications for M.Tech Scholarships 2014

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has started the applications processing for ‘M.Tech Scholarships’ for students pursuing their Master of Technology program offered in various disciplines for the academic session 2014.

As per records, in 1956, the German Government offered technical assistance for establishing an institute of higher education in engineering in India. The establishment of the Indian Institute of Technology at Madras, the first Indo-German agreement in Bonn, West Germany was signed in 1959 and the Institute was formally inaugurated in 1959 by Prof. Humayun Kabir, Union Minister for Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs.

Candidates having a bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture from educational institutions approved by AICTE/Government can apply for this scholarship. Candidates can apply online on the official website from March 29, 2014 onwards till April 12, 2014.IIT Madras

The scholarship provides financial assistance in the form of Half-Time Teaching Assistantship (HTTA) at the rate of Rs. 8,000 pm (tenable for a maximum period of 24 months). It is supposed to be awarded to Indian nationals pursuing the M.Tech programs, subjected to institute rules.

The HTTA students are entitled to assist the department for 8 hours of work on a weekly basis. The tasks will be related to academic activities of the department such as laboratory demonstration, tutorials, evaluation of assignments, test papers, seminars, research projects etc.

Additionally, few seats are available without HTTA (N-HTTA, i.e., without any financial assistance) in some M.Tech. streams as indicated in the ‘Programmes’ link. Candidates can opt for either HTTA (code ending with Y), or N-HTTA (Code ending with N), or both, in a particular M.Tech. stream. The eligibility criteria for HTTA and N-HTTA categories are the same.

There are certain enlisted provisions for the candidates who have joined M.Tech streams under N-HTTA category to convert to HTTA at the end of one semester. It will depend on the vacancies in HTTA category and on the basis of their performance in the first semester examinations.
