Magdalene College Roosevelt Scholarship for British and Canadian Candidates, 2016

Magdalene College awards Roosevelt Scholarship for British and Canadian candidates undertaking MPhil degree in matters relevant to Anglo-American relations. Candidates must have graduated at a University before 1 October 2016. The maximum award that will be made to a Scholar will be a contribution to maintenance costs up to c. £11,000. The Scholarship will be tenable for one year from 1 October 2016. Successful applicants will be expected to provide a brief report on their time in Cambridge, to be submitted within three months of the completion of their course. The application deadline is 27 May 2016.

Eligibility: The College invites applications for Roosevelt Scholarships from well-qualified British and Canadian candidates who will be studying at the University of Cambridge for the MPhil degree in matters relevant to Anglo-American relations. All applicants must be accepted on one of the University’s post-graduate programmes to be eligible. Candidates must have graduated at a University before 1 October 2016.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Roosevelt Scholarship is available for British and Canadian candidates.

Scholarship Description: The Roosevelt scholarship is named after William Donner Roosevelt (1932-2003); a leading North American philanthropist, his paternal grandfather was Franklin D. Roosevelt and his maternal grandfather William Donner.

Duration of award(s): The Scholarship will be tenable for one year from 1 October 2016.

What does it cover? The maximum award that will be made to a Scholar will be a contribution to maintenance costs up to c. £11,000. It follows, therefore, that an applicant will have found, or have applied for, the costs of meeting i) the University Composition Fee (home or overseas rate) and ii) any outstanding maintenance costs. The College will endeavour to offer rented accommodation in or near College to a single Scholar.

Selection Criteria: Consideration will normally be restricted to those who have a record of academic excellence consistent with the proposed field of study and who can demonstrate the potential to make a significant contribution to the broader life of Magdalene College and the interests of the Atlantic Studies Programme at the University of Cambridge.

Notification: The outcome of the competition should be known by 29 July 2016.

How to Apply: Those wishing to be considered for a Roosevelt Scholarship must apply to the Board of Graduate Studies for admission to the University as a Graduate Student using the usual GRADSAF form  which is obtainable online or in hard copy from the Board. All candidates must complete a Roosevelt Scholarship application form which can be downloaded or obtained from Ms C. Percival, the Graduate Tutor’s Assistant, Tutorial Office, Magdalene College. Applications can be submitted in electronic form or in hard copy (6 copies) to the Graduate Tutor’s Assistant by 27 May 2016. References must be received electronically or in hard copy by the closing date and applicants should ensure that their nominated referees keep to the application deadline. Preference may be given to those nominating Magdalene as their first-choice College.
