Mining and the technologies that it comes with have a very loud and damaging echo on our environment. Africa, a continent once loved for its fresh waters, fresh air and diverse wild life is slowly being striped of its pride. Those we’ve empowered to formulate policies on these damaging activities seem to have gone to sleep and we are watching our pride and environment deteriorate. Like a carrot dangled before a donkey, they dangle, “development and investment”. Desperate, our leaders are quick to sign the big contracts to provide jobs for a few poor, but at what cost? Our environment? our future? our lives?
With my technical background and work experience, i know i can make policies and decisions that will not compromise on our enviroment. To prepare me for that challenge i feel a Masters in Environmental engineering will help alot in me becoming a well rounded policy maker.
