Nanyang Technological University Offers Online Credit Courses

In a move to bring innovation in university education, the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, has started the process of offering credits through online courses.

The new step would enable students to earn credits through the online courses, prepared by the NTU in collaboration with Coursera.

The credits offered are equivalent of an elective module of an undergraduate programme at NTU. The final credits shall be offered to the students who are also required to give the pen and paper test.

There is no way one can dupe the process as the entire course runs on Coursera’s signature track where webcams are used to validate the candidate profile. Also, unique typing patterns are recorded in the beginning.

NTU Online credit courses

All total, 1200 undergraduate students have passed two of its online courses. ‘An Exploration of Symmetry’ attracted 25,500 participants worldwide. There were 53,000 participants for the ‘Introduction to Forensic Science’ course, from different parts of the world.

With the positive responses for the online courses, the university is set to launch five of their elective modules on online platform in a few years which will allow students to save time and graduate earlier.

NTU, inaugurated in 1991, is the most growing university in the world. It ranked 39th in the world’s top 50 and secured the 1st position among the best young universities around the world. There are about 33,500 students in the colleges of engineering, science, business, education, humanities, arts, social sciences in NTU.
