Nigeria: Shell University Award Scheme

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (Operator of the NNPC/SHELL /TEPN/AGIP Joint Venture) Scholarship Scheme offers first year students in all Nigerian universities the opportunity to study with an annual grant from Shell Nigeria for the full duration of their course. The programme aims to promote academic excellence and improve the skills-base among young Nigerians.

WHO CAN APPLY?
The grant is in two categories – the National Merit Award (NM) and the Areas of Operation Merit Award, East or West (OE or OW).

1. National Merit Award (NM)

Shell programThe National Merit Award (NM) University award is open to all Nigerian first year full-time degree students in Nigerian universities who are NOT indigenes of Shell’s operational areas – Abia, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Rivers and Bayelsa (indigenes of Ekeremor and Sagbama Local Government Areas), Delta and Edo States. Apply in writing using the application format below only and send in an envelope clearly marked 2009/2010 NM Award.

2a. Areas of Operation Merit Award, East (OE)

The Areas of Operation Merit Award, East  (OE) University award is open to first year full-time degree students in Nigerian universities who are indigenes of Shell’s operational areas in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Rivers and Bayelsa States (excluding indigenes of Ekeremor and Sagbama Local Government Areas).  Apply in writing using the format below only and send in an envelope clearly marked 2009/2010 OE Award

2b. Areas of Operation Merit Award, West (OW)

The Areas of Operation Merit Award, West (OW) University award is open to first year full-time degree students in Nigerian universities who are indigenes of Shell’s operational areas in Bayelsa (i.e. indigenes of Ekeremor and Sagbama Local Government Areas), Delta and Edo States.  Apply in writing using the format below only and send in an envelope clearly marked 2009/2010 OW Award.

METHOD OF APPLICATION
Candidates who meet the above entry qualifications should apply by submitting;-

  • Copies of JAMB Admission letter, GCE, SSC, and other relevant certificates
  • A one-Page Resume (Curriculum Vitae) containing the information listed below:

  • Surname
  • Other Name(s)
  • Title (i.e. Mr, Mrs, or Miss).
  • Type of Award  (i.e. Quoting one of the above References)
  • Year of Admission
  • Mode of Admission (i.e. UME, Direct Entry, or Remedial)
  • University
  • Course
  • Course Duration
  • Matriculation Number
  • JAMB Registration Number
  • JAMB (UME) Scores
  • State of Origin
  • Local Government Area
  • Home Town
  • Community (for OE /OW Award Applicants)
  • Postal Address: {Do not use post office boxes, as mails will be posted, by courier, except otherwise indicated}
  • Residential Address: {This should reflect the House Number, Street, Town / City, and State}
  • Email Address
  • Telephone Number
  • Physical Disability (If any, attach evidence)
  • Signature and Date

Applications from candidates must be accompanied by

  1. Photocopy of JAMB or University Admission Letter;
  2. Photocopy of University Matriculation Examinations (UME) Scores;
  3. Photocopy of SSCE, GCE ‘O’ Level Result; and ‘A’ Level or OND Result as applicable;
  4. Two recent passport-sized photographs of the applicant should be stapled to the top right hand corner of application (with Name, School & Course written on the back);
  5. Letter of Identification from State (showing Local Government) of Origin; and
  6. For applicants for the Operational Area Award, Letters of Identification duly stamped and signed by:

(a) The Paramount Ruler of the Community; and

(b) The Chairman of the Community Executive Council (CEC) or

The Chairman of the Community Development Council (CDC).

    There are definitely quite a lot of particulars like that to take into consideration. That is a nice point to convey up.
