A two years research/PhD position (13 TV-L/2) is available at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, the Department of Molecular Phytopathology (Director: Prof. Dr. Daguang Cai) for the project: ?The application of functional genomic tools for development of new resistance sources to soil-born fungi pathogen Verticillium longisporum in rapeseed (Brassica napus)?.
The project will focus on plant-pathogen compatible interactions aiming at identification of key genes involved/required in the infection process. The knockout of such genes will be expected to result in plant-pathogen incompatible interactions.

In the framework of the project, a successive gene-expression profiling-based approach in combination with phytopathological investigation will be established for identification of candidate genes; The RNAi strategy and rapeseed TILLING mutant populations (TILLING: Targeting induced local lesions in genomes) will be employed for generation of corresponding mutants. The ?loss-of-function? mutants that show a complete resistance or a strongly reduced susceptibility to the pathogen infection will be selected for breeding rapeseed resistance to the pathogen infection.
The applicant will be working in a research team and is expected to have a solid background and experiences in the field of plant molecular genetics and molecular Phytopathology as well.
