Subject: “Ground conditions and landslide factors in south-western
Sweden”
The position is available at Department of Earth Sciences, University of
Gothenburg, www.gvc.gu.se
Deadline for applications: June 13, 2008.
Project description: This position is related to the research project “Quick”,
involving Quaternary stratigraphy, geophysics, hydrogeology, geochemistry and
GIS applications related to regional ground environments of importance for
landslide risks (see below). The development of quick clays is of special interest
in Scandinavia. The specific tasks within this position will partly depend upon the
background and interests of the successful candidate. This flexibility is possible
since several research disciplines are involved and there will be considerable
cooperation between researchers with different specialities. The role of geologic
variables and the prediction of their geographic and stratigraphic trends will be in
focus for the combined work. It is envisioned that 1-2 additional PhD students and
2-4 Masters students will work together in cooperation with researchers at our
department, SGU, SGI and other partners in an interest network of both
researchers and end-users. The candidate should have a Masters degree or
equivalent in geology or an appropriately related field of Earth sciences. The
project is funded mainly by the Swedish Rescue Agency (Räddningsverket).
Postgraduate students receive a PhD stipend (currently 14,900 SEK) during the
first two years and hold a doctoral position (18,850-22,400 SEK) during the last
two years.
