Scholarship Description: We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work on stochastic modelling of contaminant transport in heterogeneous aquifers. The main objective of the thesis will be to investigate transport upscaling methods. The focus will be put on their parameterization. The tasks include geostatistical modelling, groundwater flow and transport modelling, as well as mathematical modelling. A close collaboration with Dr. Marco Dentz from the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC) in Barcelona is envisioned.

The successful candidate has a MSc degree or equivalent in hydrogeology, environmental engineering, physics, or a related discipline. A strong background in mathematics and physics is required. Experience in groundwater modelling is an advantage.
