The Research Unit Forest Soils and Biogeochemistry examines how biogeochemical cycles and microbial processes are driven by environmental change. As part of an SNF research project, the Research Group Rhizosphere Processes is offering a PhD Position in Molecular Microbial.
You will gain a better understanding of the impact of mechanical disturbance during timber harvesting on the diversity and functioning of the soil microbiome. You will use cutting-edge biochemical and molecular genetic methods to study diversity and metabolic potential of the soil microbiome under different scenarios of mechanical disturbance. You will contribute to group activities, work in an interdisciplinary team, publish research findings in internationally
peer-reviewed journals and participate in national and international workshops and conferences.

- You have a Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Microbiology, and/or Ecology with a strong interest in microbial ecology and metagenomics of the soil environment.
- Experience in high-throughput DNA sequencing, bioinformatics, statistics, biogeochemical
analysis and general laboratory manipulation experiments is required.
- Good communication skills, an excellent team spirit and proficiency in written and spoken English
