Eligibility:
The ideal candidate has a strong interest in biomechanics and human motion capture with a strong background in measurement techniques. Experience with 3D Mocap and multi-body simulations is an advantage. The ideal candidate should be interested to work in a technological-driven environment and willing to function in a multidisciplinary context. The candidate will also be involved in educational tasks related to biomechanics/anatomy in the bachelor and master program of the faculty of kinesiology and rehabilitation sciences.

Scholarship Open for International Students: No

Scholarship Description: Within a multidisciplinary project we will develop an integrated approach to support the design, implementation and testing of a bilateral intelligent active lower-limb orthosis to assist persons suffering functional weakness (elderly, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy patients). Within this framework we will recruit one PhD student to assist in this process of design specification and testing of the device behavior: Using integrated motion capture we will first specify motor templates that will constitute the control strategies required to assist a variety of motor tasks during daily living. Second, we will assist in multi-modal sensor definition to provide essential input to the device control in non-laboratory conditions. Third, we will evaluate device performance using multi-body simulations that account for the user-specific needs and assist in fine tuning the specified control strategies.
