The applicant should have – a degree (preferably MSc) in Computer Science or Electrical/Electronic Engineering – excellent problem solving and analytical skills. – Good programming skills and preferably experience with Matlab. – Experience in one of the fields of Computer Vision and/or Machine Learning, and/or Statistical Pattern Recognition and/or Image processing. Preferably an MSc thesis in one of those areas – Good mathematical background, especially in linear algebra and statistics.

Scholarship Description: Applications are invited for two fully funded PhD Student to undertake research in the area of Human Motion Analysis and Understanding. One position is supported by an EU project and falls in the general area of modeling and recognition of Human Actions from multi-view image sequences. The work is expected to build on recent developments in Computer Vision and Machine Learning for learning human facial/body/hand gestures from few examples, with emphasis on transfer learning for cross-modality, cross-category and cross-view learning. The second position is supported by the school of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science and can address any of the problems of tracking, segmentation, 3D modelling, recognition, in the context of Human Motion Analysis.
