UC-ESR Connect PhD Scholarships for International Students in New Zealand, 2017

University of Canterbury (UC) in partnership with the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR)  is offering PhD scholarship applications for both New Zealand and international students for the 2017-2018 academic year.

The aim of the scholarship is to motivate the investigation the potential for phage-derived enzymes to be used as an intervention against bacterial pathogens of importance to food, water, and medicine.

Course Level: The scholarship is available to pursue PhD programme.

Study Subject: The scholarship is awarded to investigate the potential for phage-derived enzymes to be used as an intervention against bacterial pathogens of importance to food, water and medicine.

Scholarship Award: The scholarship will cover the following:

  • The successful applicant will be enrolled at UC. International students at UC pay domestic fees and the University will assist you to obtain a student visa. This full scholarship includes a tax-free stipend of NZ $21,000 per year plus university fees for 3 years.

Scholarship can be taken in New Zealand

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following area for the scholarship:

  • Applicants will have a high-quality Honours or Master’s degree in microbiology or biochemistry, and be able to work independently.
  • Applicants should have a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology and microbiology.
  • Applicants experience with protein expression, bioinformatics, and working with phages and bacterial pathogens in a PC2 environment would be an advantage.

Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities can apply for the scholarship.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have a high-quality Honours or Master’s degree in microbiology or biochemistry.

English Language Requirement: If English is not applicant’s first language, applicants must have passed English exams with scores that meet the requirements for postgraduate study in New Zealand, for example, an IELTS score of at least 6.5 overall, and no less than 6.0 in each band.
