Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies is funding PhD scholarships for EU and Non-EU students for Academic Year 2014/2015. Up to twenty-one scholarships for the duration of three years will be available. Applicants will receive a scholarship amounting to a total of € 14,000 (Euro fourteen thousand) per year. Eligible applicants must have a Master of Science (MSc) degree or an equivalent academic qualification. The application deadline of PhD Programme in Agrobiosciences is September 8, 2014, International PhD in Agrobiodiversity is September 5, 2014 and PhD Programme in Translational Medicine is 30th September 2014.

Eligibility:
1. EU citizens:

a. Eligible applicants must have a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree or an equivalent academic qualification. For the purpose of the present competition, the Selection Committee determines the required equivalence. The age limit for applicants is set at 35 years on the online application deadline. Applicants exceeding this limit may be admitted by the Selection Committee under exceptional circumstances linked to the curriculum of the candidate.
b. Candidates without the final degree, but expecting to obtain it prior to 31 October 2014 may also apply. In this case applicants will be admitted conditionally, pending presentation of a certification for the degree within the due date. The application form must report the expected date for graduation and must also attach a summary of the thesis.

2. NON EU citizens:
a. Eligible applicants must have a Master of Science (MSc) degree or an equivalent academic qualification. For the purpose of the present competition, the Selection Committee verifies the required equivalence. The age limit for applicants is set at 35 years on the online application deadline. Applicants exceeding this limit may be admitted by the Selection Committee under exceptional circumstances linked to the curriculum of the candidate.
b. Non EU applicants are admitted pending verification of their diploma/degree by the Italian authorities in their country of origin. Once conditionally admitted to the Programme, applicants shall immediately apply for the required certificate from the local Italian Consulate.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Applicants of EU and Non-EU can apply for these PhD scholarships.

Scholarship Description: The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna reserves the possibility of accepting a maximum 1 additional student without a grant or other forms of financial support.

Number of award(s): Up to 21 PhD scholarships are available.

Duration of award(s): Scholarships are available for 3 years.

What does it cover? PhD students will receive a scholarship amounting to a total of € 14,000 (Euro fourteen thousand) per year (gross amount inclusive of the national insurance “gestione separata INPS”), being disbursed in monthly instalments.
2. Ph.D. Students are entitled to one free meal (lunch or dinner) per day at the School’s canteen from Monday to Saturday, according to the schedule of service. Students also have access to the library and laboratories, according to the rules specified in the Regulation of PhD Programmes.
3. The Programme’s Advisory Board may authorize PhD students to participate in study and research activities in research institutions outside the School.
4. The allowance defined above is subject for fiscal purposes to the laws governing fellowships allocated by the University or the Regional Government.
5. The School provides to the PhD students full insurance coverage for accident and civil liability. The School is also responsible for safety in the workplace and the safe use of equipment and instrumentation.

Selection criteria: At the end of the first and the second year of the Programme, academic performance and research activities of each PhD student will be reviewed by the Advisory Board, whose positive assessment is a condition for admission to the second and to the third year.
