Job description:The Department of Finance at the Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a number of vacant PhD scholarships within the field of financial risk management. The area is meant to be interpreted broadly and research proposals could, for example, address issues such as financial risk management in financial institutions (e. g. banks, insurance companies, mortgage institutions, pension funds), regulation of financial markets and institutions, derivative pricing and hedging, credit risk modelling, sovereign risk, the link between financial markets and the macro-economy, portfolio management, asset allocation, capital structure and financial econometrics.
The successful applicant must have a record of top grades from previously completed programmes. Priority will be given to candidates who have both a strong quantitative background and previous training in financial economics.

General information
A PhD scholarship runs for a period of 3 years, and includes teaching obligations equivalent of ½ year’s work (840 work hours).
The scholarships are fully salaried positions, according to the national Danish collective agreement. The scholarship includes the tuition fees, office space, travel grants plus a salary, currently starting with per month app. DKK 22,345 (app. 3,000 euro) up to DKK 27,280 (app. 3,660 euro) depending on seniority, plus a pension contribution totalling 17,1 % of 80 per cent of the base salary.
The salary level and appointment is determined by the Ministry of Finance’s collective agreement with the Central Academic Organisation.
Application requirements
To be considered, the candidate should have a basic training at the Masters level (similar to the 3 + 2 Bologna process). Although applicants must have successfully completed the Masters degree before commencing PhD studies at CBS, applications are welcomed from individuals close to completion of the Masters degree. The applicants must be fluent in English.
The application (see link below) must include a project description of at most 5 pages, including references. This research proposal should contain a presentation of an original research problem which the applicant would like to work on. While an important part of the PhD training is to enhance the candidate’s command of theory and empirical methods, the project description should also include a description of the theoretical framework and empirical methods which the applicant currently views as best suited to attack the research problem. The application must include the completed application form, copies of a Master’s degree certificate including a transcript of grades. Students close to completing a Master’s degree should include their most recent transcript along with a statement from an advisor indicating the date at which completion of the degree is expected. The application must also include a brief curriculum vitae (CV), a list of papers and publications, and one copy of a selected written work (e.g. a Master’s thesis). Documentation for English language skills is encouraged. Documentation of GRE and/or GMAT scores is strongly encouraged. For submitting GMAT scores, look up Copenhagen Business School in the GMAC register and choose the PhD Program. We also strongly recommend including with the application up to three letters of recommendation which comment on the candidate’s academic achievements and potential for conducting independent and original research.
All parts of the application must be submitted in four copies, except the selected written work and the letters of recommendation which may be submitted in only one copy. Electronic submissions are not accepted.
Closing date: June 11, 2010 at 12.00 noon.
A committee of experts in the field in question will assess the applications. The assessment of the applicants will be based on the quality and relevance of the project, including an evaluation of the applicant’s ability to accomplish it. Following this assessment, the management of the department will select the recipients of the Ph.D. scholarships who will then be admitted to the Ph.D. program.
