Eligibility: Residency: Full awards (fees plus stipend) are open to UK Nationals and EU students without further restrictions.
-Academic criteria: We are seeking confident, innovative postgraduates with a strong record of achievement. Eligible applicants should have, or expect to achieve, either a Masters degree with distinction or merit from a UK university or an equivalent qualification from outside the UK, or have suitable professional experience.

Scholarship Open for International Students: UK/EU applicants are eligible to apply for this studentship.

Scholarship Description: Project title: PhD in Music: The Cardiff School of Music is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to pursue full-time doctoral research at the School of Music, Cardiff University. Applications are invited from outstanding applicants of a high calibre. We welcome applications from candidates wishing to develop projects on the topics of (but not limited to): Opera and Drama, Performance-Practice, 20th/21st century music, Supervisors: Applicants are encouraged in the first instance to contact potential supervisors for initial project discussions.

Number of award(s): One studentship will be awarded.

Duration of award(s): The studentship is awarded for 3 years.

What does it cover? This studentship consists of full UK/EU tuition fees, as well as a Doctoral Stipend of £6,000 per annum. Additional funding of the value of £ 1,200 over the length of the candidature is available as an allowance to help support with attending conferences, obtaining research materials, recording performances of music, or conducting relevant research away from Cardiff.

Notification: Short-listed applicants will be invited to interview during the week commencing the 7th December with the expectation that the successful candidate will enroll for study on January 1 2016.

How to Apply: Applicants must complete and submit the following documentation by the deadline of 12.00pm, 30th November. Note that the deadline is absolute and applications received after this specified time and date will not be accepted.
-Submit a completed application form for admission to doctoral study in the School of Music – submitted to the Academic Registry via the online admissions portal. (Please specify the School of Music – Research Degree – Doctor of Philosophy (Music) with a start date of January 2016)
-Submit the following documentation (attached to a single email with the subject School of Music Studentship) to Parkinva-at-cardiff.ac.uk
-A letter of application stating your reasons for wishing to pursue PhD study.
-A short abstract of the proposed PhD study (maximum 500 words)
-A full research proposal for the PhD study (maximum 1500 words, excluding references)
-A CV
-Official transcripts of previous higher education degrees
-Two academic references
-The same documents can be used in support of both the scholarship and admission applications but should be submitted separately – i.e. studentship application documents emailed toparkinva-at-cardiff.ac.uk and University admission application documents uploaded via the online system.
