( votes)Eligibility:-We are inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in this group. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, will have at least 3 years experience with genetic engineering, and be fluent in German and English.
-The ideal candidate will also have significant experience with gene expression analyses (e.g. microarray, in-situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, etc.) and genetic mouse models of neurodegenerative disease.
-Planned projects involve behavior and sleep, magnetic resonance imaging, high-throughput screenings, and gene expression profiling.

Scholarship Description: The laboratory of Selective Vulnerability of Neurodegenerative Diseases is focused on understanding why misfolded proteins tend to damage specific brain regions. To study this problem an allelic series of knock-in mice have been developed to model acquired and inherited prion diseases. Remarkably, we found that different point mutations to the prion protein result in diseases targeting different parts of the brain. We intend to expand into more common diseases in the future.
