SAMA PhD Supplementary Scholarship for South African Students, 2019

Outstanding students are inviting to become a part of the SAMA PhD Supplementary Scholarship. The scholarship is available for South African students.

The aim of this scholarship is to support successful applicant who must be a South African citizen and a graduate of any university in South Africa who has started their PhD study one year prior to applying for this scholarship.

The South African Medical Association (SAMA) is a trade union for doctors in South Africa. It is affiliated with the Congress of South African Trade Union.

Course Level: Scholarship is available to pursue PhD programme.

Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded in the fields offered by the university.

Scholarship Award: Scholarship will cover the following:

  • The successful applicant will receive a stipend of R100 000 as well as one year’s tuition fees.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • The main selection criteria is the academic quality of the research proposal and the suitability of the project for South Africa’s research programme.

Nationality: South African applicants are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have a previous year degree.

How to Apply: Applicants can apply via post:

  • Completed application form together with a passport size photograph attached.
  • Typed copy of curriculum vitae (max of 2 pages).
  • Proof of registration with an academic institution and statutory council.
  • 1 – 2-page cover letter explaining your motives for applying i.e. letter of intent.
  • Title of project and the short abstract of your research project (approx 500 words).
  • The brief outline of the methodology you will use.
  • Two letters of recommendation from supervisors.
