This scholarship program is a fully funded four-year scholarships for all the Atlanta Public School valedictorians and Salutatorians. Under this program, they will automatically be accepted into Georgia Tech.

Peterson also said, “It’s to try to help these students in Atlanta public schools realize (that) Georgia Tech is within their reach. If they are qualified, we can help them figure out how to do it and how to afford it.”

The initiative comes after a great effort are being made to retain the talents from the public schools where they would have exposure and access to Georgia Tech. Though the existing state scholarship has allowed Georgia high school valedictorians and salutatorians to be part of the full-tuition scholarships, but the APS Scholars program guarantees APS valedictorians and salutatorians to receive scholarships for a period of four years. If they fall short of state scholarship requirements in terms of GPA scores, then under the APS program, a minimum GPA of 3.0 shall open the door to the Georgia Tech.

The desiring candidates are first required to complete the Georgia Tech’s prerequisite course work and the admission process. Under this program, 38 students per year will be accommodated which consists of top two students from Atlanta’s 19 high schools. As per the report, 13 Atlanta graduates shall enroll at Georgia Tech in this fall. But students can be part of this program in the next summer of 2015 if they qualify the process.

The scholarship amount will roughly constitute the expenditure to be incurred at Georgia Tech. It includes the in-state freshman tuition fee of $9,002. Then the total cost of attendance, which covers other fees related to books, housing and meal constitutes about $25,000 per year.
