Swan Family funding for DVM Program at University of Sydney in Australia

The University of Sydney is inviting applications for a merit-based scholarship available for an Australian citizen or permanent resident. This support will be awarded for pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program with the Faculty of Veterinary Science. The sponsorship will provide the successful candidate with $6,000 per year for each year of the DVM program, so $24,000 in total.

Starting in 2015, this award is for the support of an outstanding student from an Australian rural area and enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program with the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney.

This scholarship is a competitive merit-based Scholarship, to defray the costs of accommodation and general living expenses beyond University fees and charges. The Swan family award is permanently endowed from a generous gift to support students to innovate and rejuvenate the rural veterinary profession.

The student awarded The Swan Family Scholarship would be expected to have strong links to rural communities, demonstrated leadership skills and have an ongoing interest and involvement with issues affecting rural communities and will be someone who is able to articulately voice rural concerns and contribute to constructive, contextual debate.

Eligibility

The criteria for selection are:

  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • a high-achieving, rural applicant who is eligible for enrolment in the DVM in the year of the award
  • evidence of direct experience in the rural sector
  • demonstration of an active interest in rural affairs and a desire to contribute to issues affecting the future of rural Australia
  • demonstration of how a Scholarship would assist in achieving their education and career goals.
  • Then, for the continuation of the program: demonstrating annually, exemplary academic progress.
  • The student must already have completed an undergraduate degree
