ECA Fellowship for Young African Professionals, 2014

ECA is inviting applications from qualified young African Professionals in the area of new technologies, including ICTs in the context of new technologies for Development. Applicants from United Nations Economic Commission for Africa member states are eligible for this fellowship. Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of USD 3,000. Fellows will be provided with a return air ticket between his/her country of residence and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Duration of fellowship is of six months. Qualified women are particularly encouraged to apply. The application deadline is 10th April 2014.

Study Subject (s): Fellowship is awarded in the area of new technologies, including ICTs in the context of new technologies for Development. Fellows will work on a predefined project, designed to contribute to specific aspects of the work programme of the receiving section, the New Technologies and Innovation Section (NTIS).
Course Level: The programme aims to provide practical, on-the-job experience to the young professionals as they prepare either for a career in research and international development and the public sector.

ECA’s dual role as a regional arm of the UN and a part of the regional institutional landscape in Africa, positions it well to make unique contributions to member States’ efforts to address their development challenges. Scholarship Description: The Open Society Foundations, in collaboration with EARTH University, provide five four-year undergraduate scholarships for students from Haiti and five for students from Liberia and Sierra Leone to study at EARTH University, Costa Rica. EARTH University offers a bachelor of science degree with a focus on natural resource management and social entrepreneurship. EARTH University provides an innovative curriculum focused on leadership, agricultural study, and community development to emerging young leaders to enable them to confront the social and environmental challenges of their home countries in tangible and socially responsive ways. During the program, students apply their learning through collaborative group projects, local field work and a mandatory internship in their third year.
