2015 Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Visiting Students’ Programme In India

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is offering annual summer programmes for Indian students. TIFR pursues basic research primarily in Astronomical, Biological, Chemical and Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science and Systems Science (including Communications & Applied Probability) and runs a graduate program leading to a PhD in all these areas. Participants are paid a monthly stipend , Sleeper class return railway fare and are provided with shared hostel accommodation. The internship application deadlines are For Maths – February 10, 2015, for all other subjects – January 15, 2015.

Eligibility: Applications from motivated First Year M.Sc., Fourth Year Integrated MS and M.Tech. students.  Highly motivated Third Year B.Tech. Students are also eligible to apply.

Internship Description: Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) conducts annual summer programmes in which talented students are introduced to research activities in the areas of Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. The selected students are expected to work on a research project under the supervision of a TIFR researcher. The programmes are held both at the Mumbai campus of the TIFR as well as at the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA), Pune during mid May to early July each year.
TIFR pursues basic research primarily in Astronomical, Biological, Chemical and Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science and Systems Science (including Communications & Applied Probability) and runs a graduate program leading to a Ph.D. in all these areas.
We encourage applications from motivated First Year M.Sc., Fourth Year Integrated MS and M.Tech. Students.  Highly motivated Third Year B.Tech. Students are also eligible to apply.

Number of awards offered: The institute appoints no fixed number of students that it takes from any one institution. However, as it take typically ~40 students from all over India, very often, only one or two students are taken from a single institution, though this depends primarily on the merit of the student.

Internship Duration: The program will run from mid May to early July each year.
