The University of Leeds is part of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities. The university was established in 1904 and it is one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK. For 2015-16, Leeds is ranked nationally between 14th (Times and Sunday Times) and 23rd (The Guardian). Internationally, the university is ranked as the 32nd best in Europe and globally ranked 87th in the 2015 QS World University Rankings and 101–150. University is renowned globally for the quality of their teaching and research. It offers 560 first-degree and 260 postgraduate-degree courses. Entry Requirements

University normally considers applicants from all over the world. Applicants need to follow entry requirements in terms of standard British qualifications (A-levels, or a ‘good honours degree’). However, admissions tutors at Leeds are familiar with international qualifications and welcome applications from students with equivalent qualifications. If student consider themselves to be a good student within their own educational system, then it is likely there will be an appropriate entry point for them in Leeds.

English Language Requirements

If English is not student’s first language, they will need a recognised English Language qualification to be admitted onto any of the University’s degree programmes.

Undergraduate Study

Acceptable minimum qualifications include:
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) an overall band of 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in each component skill
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) of 87 (with no less than 20 in listening, 20 in reading, 22 in speaking and 21 in writing)
Pearson (Academic) of 60 overall with no less than 56 in any component
Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) of 169 overall with no less than 162 in any component
Trinity College Integrated Skills in English of a Pass in ISE II or above (if taken in the UK)

Postgraduate Taught Study

Acceptable minimum qualifications include:
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) an overall band of 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each component skill
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) of 92 with no less than 21 in listening, 21 in reading, 23 in speaking and 22 in writing
Pearson (Academic) of 64 overall with no less than 60 in any component
Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) of 176 overall with no less than 169 in any component
Trinity College Integrated Skills in English of a Pass in ISE II or above (if taken in the UK)

Postgraduate Research Study

Acceptable minimum qualifications include:

There are number of scholarships available for national and international students.

Climate and Atmospheric Science Scholarship

The School of Earth and Environment is offering a scholarship worth £6,500, to a UK/EU student of outstanding ability, achievement and potential – undertaking a full-time Masters in Climate and Atmospheric Science. The application deadline is June 1, 2016.

Earth Science Industrial Scholarships

The School of Earth and Environment attracts a number of companies offering scholarships for UK/EU students, on the following courses: MSc Exploration Geophysics, MSc Structural Geology with Geophysics and MSc Engineering Geology. The awards vary and can cover some or all of the tuition fee, maintenance/living costs and conference/project expenses. The application deadline for Exploration Geophysics is 11th February 2016, Structural Geology with Geophysics is 11th February 2016 and Engineering Geology is 29th March 2016.

Engineeering Geology Scholarships

The School of Earth and Environment is offering two scholarships worth up to £19,000, to international students of outstanding ability, achievement and potential – undertaking a full-time Masters in Engineering Geology. The application deadline is May 1, 2016.

Transport Employers’ Scholarships

The Institute for Transport Studies (ITS), University of Leeds is offering 30% fees scholarships, each worth £2,000, to provide development opportunities to students of outstanding ability, achievement and potential. The application deadline is July 7, 2016.

MSc Mathematical Modelling for Transport International Scholarships

The Institute for Transport Studies (ITS), University of Leeds is offering 50% fees scholarships, worth up to £8,500, to provide development opportunities to students of outstanding ability, achievement and potential. The scholarships will fund 50% of the tuition fees for three students to undertake a Masters degree in transport modelling on a full-time study basis. Th application deadline is 15th June, 2016.

Institute for Transport Scholarships

The Institute for Transport Studies (ITS), University of Leeds is offering 50% fees scholarships, worth up to £8,500, to provide development opportunities to students of outstanding ability, achievement and potential. The scholarships will fund 50% of the tuition fees for three students to undertake a Masters degree in transport modelling on a full-time study basis. The application deadline is June 15, 2016.

The School of Geography, University of Leeds, is offering a number of partial fee scholarships for Master students. These scholarships are designed to provide exceptional opportunities to students of outstanding ability, achievement and potential. The scholarships range from £500 up to £2500 and can only be used as a partial tuition fee payment. The deadline to apply is May 1, 2016.

MSc Geographical Information Systems (Distance Learning) Scholarships

The School of Geography, University of Leeds, is offering a number of partial fee scholarships for students studying the Masters in Geographical Information Systems (Distance Learning) and taking either the Business, Planning or Developer stream in Year 2. If you are awarded the scholarship will receive a reduction of £800 in Year 2 and £600 in Year 3.

UK/EU Geography Scholarships
