ZZF Leibniz Summer Fellowships in Germany, 2015

The Centre for Contemporary History (ZZF) awards summer fellowships to study “German and European History in the 20th century”. Fellows are expected to reside in Berlin or Potsdam for two consecutive months between April and October 2015. The Leibniz Summer Fellowships carry a monthly grant of about 3.000 €. Applicants must have at least postdoctoral status with an outstanding academic record. The application deadline is January 31, 2015.

Study Subject(s): Fellowships are awarded to study German and European History in the 20th century. The ZZF covers a broad scope of Contemporary European History with currently four research departments that reach from “Communism and Society” and “Economic Thought and Practice” to “Regimes of the Social Sphere” and “Contemporary History in the Age of Media and Information”.
Course Level:
Fellowship is available to pursue individual research in Germany while participating in the academic life in one of Germany’s major historical research centres.

Eligibility: Applicants must have at least postdoctoral status with an outstanding academic record. They are expected to pursue their own research. However applicants whose interests relate to the research departments at the ZZF will be preferred. Fellowship holders will be assigned to a research department and asked to present their current project in a seminar or colloquium.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Scholars from Germany are eligible to apply for these  Summer fellowships.

Scholarship Description: The Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung / Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam (ZZF) is pleased to invite applications for up to three  Leibniz Summer Fellowships “German and European History in the 20th century” for the academic year 2015 to study German and European History in the 20th century. These two-month fellowships provide an opportunity to pursue individual research in Germany while participating in the academic life in one of Germany’s major historical research centres. Founded in 1992, the ZZF covers a broad scope of Contemporary European History with currently four research departments that reach from “Communism and Society” and “Economic Thought and Practice” to “Regimes of the Social Sphere” and “Contemporary History in the Age of Media and Information”. The ZZF library holds approx. 80,000 items and subscribes to more than 100 periodicals. Since 2009 the ZZF is a full member of the Leibniz-Association (WGL).

Number of award(s): Up to three fellowships are available.

Duration of award(s): Fellows are expected to reside in Berlin or Potsdam for two consecutive months between April and October 2015.

What does it cover? The Leibniz Summer Fellowships carry a monthly grant of about 3.000 €. The funding is supposed to cover all expenses including travel, housing, and insurance. The ZZF will provide office space and other relevant facilities.

Notification: Decisions will be announced not later than February 28, 2015.

How to Apply: Applicants can apply via mail or may use electronic application (via e-mail with one combined pdf-attachment only). The letter of recommendation should be sent under separate cover or with a separate e-mail. Applications can be in English or German and must include:
-a letter of interest;
-a curriculum vitae (including a list of publications);
-a project proposal not exceeding 1.500 words;
-a letter of recommendation (under separate cover).
