Fulbright STEM Awards for U.S. Graduate Students in Canada, 2016-2017

Applications are Fulbright STEM Awards from US students to pursue PhD study in Canada beginning in September 2016. The STEM award is a three year award valued at some $120,000 (tuition, fees, and an annual stipend of $20,000). In addition to the tuition award and the stipend, the Foundation provides considerable additional support, which includes health and accident insurance, immigration services, scholar services and enrichment activities. The application deadline is November 16, 2015.

Study Subject(s): Eligible fields of study/research include: Aeronautics and Aeronautical Engineering, Agriculture (theoretical or research-based focus only),Astronomy/Planetary Sciences, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science Energy, Engineering (aerospace, electrical, chemical, civil, industrial, mechanical, ocean, and petroleum), Environmental Science/Engineering, Geology/Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Information Sciences/Engineering (engineering focus only; business-focused study is not eligible), Materials Science/Engineering, Mathematics, Neuroscience, Oceanography, Physics and Public Health (biostatistics or epidemiology).
Course Level: Awards are available to pursue PhD degree program in Canada.

Eligibility: In order to apply for a Fulbright Canada STEM Award, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:
-American citizenship at time of application (permanent resident status or landed immigrant status are not sufficient)
-English language proficiency (and/or French language proficiency, if applicable)
-Undergraduate degree (completed by August 31, 2016)
-Strong background in one of the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)

Scholarship Description: The Fulbright Canada Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Award is an initiative of the Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America (Fulbright Canada), in cooperation with the Department of Foreign Affairs Trade and Development Canada and six of Canada’s leading research universities. Fulbright Canada has partnered with the following universities to provide the very best opportunities in both basic and applied fields of science, engineering and mathematics: McGill University, Université de Montréal, University of Alberta, University of British Columbia, University of Toronto, and the University of Waterloo. Fulbright Canada will work closely with the award recipients, partner universities, and our cooperating agencies in the United States to ensure the most appropriate for the grantee.

Selection Criteria: The Fulbright Canada STEM Award Adjudication Committee reviews all applications and makes recommendations based primarily on the candidates’ academic and professional background and the merit of the proposal, along with (in a secondary capacity) candidates’ fit to the program.

Notification: Applicants are normally notified of the final decision by April 15th.
