Job description: The Lloyd Trotter African American Forum Scholarship program is funded by GE employees and matching fund contributions are generously provided by the GE Foundation. The scholarship is awarded to rising sophomore, juniors, seniors and graduate students majoring in specified technical disciplines attending an accredited university. To qualify you must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship is named after Lloyd G. Trotter, President and CEO of GE Industrial Systems, who is recognized for his on-going commitment to volunteerism and mentoring.

Criteria:

  • Required minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0/4.0 scale
  • Must be paid NSBE members
  • Open to Rising Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and Graduate Students status AND be graduating no earlier than May 2012. December 2011 graduates are not allowed to apply.
  • Major in Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Physics
  • All applicants must be a U.S. citizen or hold an official UNRESTRICTED U.S. work authorization.
  • Applicants must be willing to accept a PAID internship at a GE location (TBD) in the U.S. for – 10 weeks during the Summer of 2011. (NEW)
  • Scholarship Applications must also forward an Official University/College transcript (Spring 2010 transcripts or later may be used). Applicant can email an unofficial transcript to [email protected].  GPAs must be confirmed with NSBE by the application deadline.
  • Current resume submitted during online application process.

Scholarship recipients will be selected from a combination of the following criteria and desired characteristics:

  • University Academic Achievement
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills
  • Relevant internship experience
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable

AWARD: Up to Fifteen (15) $5,000 Scholarship Awards

(The number of scholarships awarded will depend on GE Fund contributions as of January 21, 2011 and ability of candidates to accept the paid internship.)
