AFoCo Landmark Graduate program in Korea, 2016

Applications are invited for AFoCo Landmark Graduate program to support higher education in the field of forestry in the Republic of Korea (ROK)). The program is funded by the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization.

The annual amount provided to a grantee shall be up to US$22,500. The applicant must be a citizen of one of the ten (10) AFoCo Member Countries. Four (4) grants, two (2) PhD and two (2) M.Sc are available.

An establishment in 2009, the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization is an intergovernmental organization in Asia. The ASEAN-ROK Forest Cooperation successfully completed its effective period by 4 August 2016 and the transition phase towards AFoCO began.

Eligibility

Candidate must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  •  AFoCo Member Countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam) can apply.
  • The studentships are awarded in the field of forestry at the College ofAgriculture, Life, Environment, Natural Sciences.
  • Must be a citizen of one of the ten (10) AFoCo Member Countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam). Important: Student who have enrolled in or graduated from a university for an undergraduate, a master’s or a doctoral program in ROK will be disqualified from applying for the Program.
  • Should be in good health, both mentally and physically, to stay in the ROK for an extended period of time. Must submit the Personal Medical Assessment. A serious illness (For example, HIV, Drug, etc) can be the main cause of disqualification from the funds.
  • Disabled individuals who satisfy the requirements are eligible for the Program.
  • Requirements for M.Sc. program: Must hold a bachelor’s degree or a degree that is equivalent to or higher than a bachelor’s degree as of 1 July 2015. Minimum Grade point average (G.P.A.) of the bachelor degree required for application is 80 out of the 100 points scales. According to the G.P.A. conversion table (attachment #6), 80 points is equivalent to G.P.A. 2.64 points out of 4.0; 2.80 out of 4.3; 2.91 out of 4.5; or, 3.23 out of 5.0 scales. Common admission requirements of the four (4) universities: a. Language requirements: Must hold a language certificate in either Korean or English: Level 3 (Kangwon and Kongju Univ.) and level 4 (Chungnam and Chungbuk Univ.) in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK); or TOEFL (PBT550, CBT210, IBT80), TEPS 550, or IELTS 5.5 (or TOEIC 650 for Chungnam Univ., 675 for Chungbuk Univ., 700 for Kangwon University) and b. If a student did not take any of the aforementioned tests, the student must submit a letter of recommendation from a prospective supervisor of the university in lieu of the proficiency language test requirement.
  • Requirements for a Ph.D. program: Must hold a Master’s degree or a degree that is equivalent to or higher than a Master’s degree as of 1 July 2015. Minimum Grade point average (G.P.A.) of the bachelor and the master degrees required for application is 80 out of the 100 points scales. According to the G.P.A. conversion table (attachment #6), 80 points is equivalent to G.P.A. 2.64 points out of 4.0; 2.80 out of 4.3; 2.91 out of 4.5; or, 3.23 out of 5.0 scales. How to Apply

Applicants can submit the Application Form via email. The recommendation letter by the Governing Council (Annex-2) must be sent to the AFoCo Secretariat directly via e-mail. Documents must be written in English or accompanied by a complete English translation authenticated by the issuing institution or notarized by a notary’s office.
