Asfari Foundation Scholarships for Master Program in UK, 2015

Applications are invited for Asfari Foundation scholarships available for Syrian, Palestinian or Lebanese students for 2015-2016 academic year. Scholarships are available for pursuing taught master’s degrees at four UK partner universities (University of Edinburgh, University of East Anglia, Imperial College London and University of St Andrews). Each scholarship includes full tuition fees and a stipend to cover accommodation and living costs. If necessary, the cost of travel to the UK will also be covered. The scholarship will be tenable for one academic year. The applications should be submitted by 31 March 2015.

Study Subject(s): Scholarships are awarded in all subjects available at University of Edinburgh, University of East Anglia and University of St Andrews. Scholarships are available in the Business School excluding any MBA programme and excluding the MSc in Actuarial Finance at Imperial College London.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing taught Master’s degrees at four UK partner universities (University of Edinburgh, University of East Anglia, Imperial College London and University of St Andrews).

Eligibility: The scholarships are open to full-time applicants who satisfy all the following criteria in that they:
-are Syrian, Palestinian or Lebanese
-are resident in Syria, Palestine, or Lebanon or have recently moved elsewhere in the region (including Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq or Jordan; Palestinians living in Syria or Lebanon; and Palestinian citizens of Israel)
-have received an unconditional offer on or before 31 March 2015 for a one-year taught Master’s course at one of the Foundation’s partner universities
-have met the English language requirements (IELTS) of the university
-are under the age of 40
-intend to invest their skills in the region after graduation
-priority may be given to candidates who have had fewer opportunities

Scholarship Open for International Students: Asfari Foundation ScholarshipsSyrian, Palestinian or Lebanese students can apply for these scholarships.

Scholarship Description: The Asfari Foundation works in the UK, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine giving talented and motivated but disadvantaged young people the opportunity to achieve the skills and knowledge to actively contribute to the development of their societies. The Foundation set up a UK Scholarships Programme in 2013. Since then, it has supported 18 Syrian, Palestinian and Lebanese scholars. Scholarships are available for the 2015/2016 academic year for eligible Syrian, Palestinian and Lebanese applicants for selected taught Master’s degrees at four UK partner universities. Each scholarship includes full tuition fees and a stipend to cover accommodation and living costs. If necessary, the cost of travel to the UK will also be covered. The scholarship will be tenable for one academic year.

Number of award(s): In 2015/16, the Foundation will award a maximum of eight Master’s scholarships across the four partner universities.

Duration of award(s): The scholarship will be tenable for one academic year. Applications for part-time Master’s degrees or two year programmes will not be considered. Scholarship offers are valid for the 2015-16 academic year only and cannot be transferred.

What does it cover? Scholarship covers:
-Full tuition fees
-A monthly stipend to cover living costs (as set each academic year by the Association of Commonwealth Universities)
Other costs (such as travel to the UK and, in extreme circumstances, the course application fee) may also be provided by the Foundation at its discretion. Please contact the Foundation for more information on claiming these expenses.

Selection Criteria: All applications from the four partner universities will be pooled, and the Foundation will select a shortlist of candidates based on its selection criteria. Information from the candidates’ course application to the universities may be shared with the Foundation for the purpose of selection.

Notification: Foundation will finalize its selection by 31 May 2015. Shortlisted candidates are usually invited to an interview by phone or Skype with an Asfari Foundation panel.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should first apply to the relevant partner university and obtain an unconditional offer. Once candidates have obtained an unconditional offer, they will need to fill in the Foundation’s scholarship application form. Complete applications, i.e. the completed application form, the offer letter and an English language certificate should be submitted by 31 March 2015 as follows:
-For Imperial College London: via email to scholarships-at-imperial.ac.uk.
-For the Universities of Edinburgh, St Andrews and East Anglia via email to scholarships-at-asfarifoundation.org.uk
