Stipend from around £12,500 to £15,000 pa (tax free), plus payment of feesWe have up to five exciting opportunities for researchers to join the Bioenergy Research Group in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at Aston University.

With over 25 years’ experience and many successes in attracting research funding, we are one of the world’s leading university laboratories in the thermal conversion of biomass into renewable energy, fuels and chemicals.

Positions are available to study for a PhD. Due to funding requirements, PhD students must be EU citizens. The positions are available now to start at any time between now and October 2008. International travel may be required.

Topics for which PhD studies are available include:

* Nitrogenolysis of biomass for fertiliser production
* Heat and mass transfer coefficients in fast pyrolysis liquid quenching
* Analysis of biomass markers by analytical pyrolysis
* Pyrolysis of MSW and waste fractions
* Market assessments for biofuels and chemicals
* Fluid bed reactors design and modelling

Skill requirements include:

* Organic chemists preferably with knowledge of, or an interest in, wood and lignin chemistry
* Chemical engineers with knowledge of, or an interest in, laboratory scale thermal processing and characterisation of products
* Analytical chemists with knowledge of GC and MS, preferably with knowledge of, or an interest in, wood and lignin chemistry
* Chemical engineers or applied chemists with a knowledge of, or an interest in, micro-reactors for thermal and catalytic processing of biomass and primary products of thermal biomass conversion
* Chemical engineers or any relevant discipline with a knowledge of or an interest in market analysis of chemical, commodities and energy

I am Bimrew Tamrat and getting my B.Sc. degree at Jimma University of Ethiopia and then working in a factory for three years. I took M.Sc. degree at Addis Ababa Universty and my thesis title was on comparative analysis on faseabilty of solar PV, Micro Hydro and wind power generation for rural electrification now I am working at Debre Markos University Technology Faculty on the position of Faculty Dean. Now I have great interest to do my PhD degree specilally on thermal systems and If there is possibilities to get this chance please help me.
    thank you
