Respectively each year, CERN Openlab innings a nine-week program for baccalaureate and postgrad students focusing on subjects connected to computer science. The programme may lead to follow-on projects in your home institute.

• Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
• Candidates of all nationalities are welcome to apply for this Summer Student Programme.
• Must be a bachelor’s or master’s student (not PhD) in computer science, mathematics, engineering or physics
• Applicants will remain registered as a student during their stay at CERN. If they expect to graduate during the European summer of 2023 (as of May), are also eligible to apply.
• Must have a strong computing profile
• Have completed at least three years of full-time studies at the university level by next June
• Have not worked at CERN before with any other status (Technical Student, Trainee, User or another status) for more than 3 months and you have not been previously a Summer Student at CERN.

• Supporting Documents: Documents should be included in the application: A CV, a recommendation letter from the university supervisor, a motivation letter with an indication of the preferred area of work, and academic transcripts for the current year. • Admission Requirements: Students must specialize in subjects related to computer science.
• Language Requirement: Must have a good knowledge of English; knowledge of French would be an advantage.

In return, CERN will provide you with:

• A contract of association of 8 to 13 weeks to work on a technical project.
• An extensive physics lecture programme (students will also be able to attend a series of IT lectures organized by Openlab).
• A 90 CHF per calendar day (net of tax) subsistence allowance to cover the cost of accommodation and meals in the Geneva area for a single person for the whole contract duration.
• A travel allowance on a lump sum basis paid at the end of your stay to help you with the cost of travel between Geneva and your residence at the time of the selection committee.
• Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive Health Insurance scheme (contribution already deducted from allowance)
• Assistance to find accommodation on the CERN site or nearby.

The few students who are paid directly by a national funding agency have to come to CERN with their own insurance coverage.
