College for Interdisciplinary Education Research (CIDER) is inviting applications for research fellowships starting from April 1, 2016, through March 31, 2019. The working language of the College is English. Fellows are also invited to participate in the international conference on January 24–26, 2016, in Berlin to connect with the 30 fellows from the first cohort and acclaimed international researchers. The application deadline is October 18, 2015.

Eligibility:
-Pre- or post-doctoral status (doctoral students in their last year before submitting their PhD thesis or postdoctoral scholars no more than 12 months after receiving their PhD)
-Above-average degree in one of the following disciplines: education, psychology, economics, or sociology
-Current employment (incl. scholarships) at a university or research institution in Europe
-Research in the field of education or education-related issues
-Strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration on quantitative-empirical research projects (within the College)
-Strong skills in quantitative methods of empirical social research
-Excellent written and spoken English

Scholarship Open for International Students: German researchers can apply for these research fellowships.

Scholarship Description: The College for Interdisciplinary Educational Research is an international and interdisciplinary network of researchers in the field of education. The aims of the College are the advancement of interdisciplinary collaboration and methodological training in quantitative educational research as well as the early independence and career development of young scholars. After the College completed a first successful round in the past three years, it now calls for applications for a second cohort of 30 excellent junior scientists in educational science, psychology, economics, and sociology during the early post-doctoral stage. Fellows are also invited to participate in the international conference on January 24–26, 2016, in Berlin to connect with the 30 fellows from the first cohort and acclaimed international researchers. The first workshop for the new fellows will take place on April 13-15, 2016 in Berlin

Number of award(s): Fellowships will be awarded to 30 young researchers starting in April 2016.

Duration of award(s): Fellowships are awarded for three years, from April 1, 2016, through March 31, 2019.

What does it cover? From April 1, 2016, through March 31, 2019, the College offers a range of activities and funding opportunities to its fellows, including:
-funding for research collaborations on the main shared research areas of the College: educational inequality and success against the odds, competence development as an educational and social process, and returns to education.
-funding for research stays abroad
-methodological, disciplinary, and professional skills workshops
-networking opportunities with experienced researchers in the field of education research
-mentoring.

Selection Criteria: Candidates with disabilities will be given preference if equally qualified; the WZB expressly invites women and persons with an immigrant background to apply.

Notification: Acceptance notifications will be sent by December 15, 2015.

How to Apply: Applications have to be in English (letters of references may also be in German) and submitted electronically and include following documents:
-CV and publication list
-Copies of credentials (transcripts)
-Letter of interest (in English) with reference to at least one of the College’s three main research areas
-Two letters of reference (from senior researchers or other academic advisors, to be handed in by the applicant, in English or German)
-One published paper or a dissertation chapter (draft or completed)
