CourseTalk Teams Up with edX for Online Review System

Reviewing on edX will now be easy. CourseTalk, an arm of AcademicxDirect, is teaming up with edX to provide user platform for rating and reviewing online courses with ‘star ratings’ and in depth ‘comment’ features.

This feature will enable students to write reviews for all the online courses on edX. It’s more of like a peer review process where a reviewer can discuss about the quality of the course delivered, the difficulty level of the course, different workloads assigned and general thoughts concerning usability. Reviewers can mark whether they have finished the course or not.

The service has been activated with a sidebar, displaying review box on each course on edX website. It shows the five-star rating system, number of reviews submitted and highlights of the recent reviews.

Reviewers can also read complete reviews by clicking through, which redirect them to the course page on CourseTalk.com.

This feature will enable students to understand the idea behind that particular course and equip them with information necessary for their own decision. This enhanced online education experience is a boon for the academic world, especially the students, professors and universities concerned. A professor, through this platform, can boost her/his academic presence and make everyone in the world know about her/his work. Universities floating the online courses can best evaluate the potentiality of such offerings and identify better practices by going through the reviews.

Speaking about this new collaboration, Karen Francis, CEO and Chairman of AcademixDirect, said, “Our collaboration with edX is one that can really help reshape how people learn online. We believe that having more information about courses during the selection process will result in higher satisfaction and completion rates for online courses thereby improving the ROI for everyone involved, including universities, professors, and students.”

edX wishes to provide education for everyone with advanced teaching and learning through research. Matt Malloy, Vice President (Marketing), edX, believes that the platform will equip students with more informed choices.  “We are pleased to work with CourseTalk to offer our two million learners around the world a seamless way to rate and review their edX courses,” he added.

CourseTalk, which was launched in 2012, has presence in many different segments with 17,000 courses from 340 institutions and provides services to students from over 210 countries. edX is governed by MIT and Harvard. It seeks to provide cutting-edge technologies, innovative pedagogy and rigorous courses for best education online.
