The Yokohama National University with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) Scholarship invites doctoral students from China who desire to participate in Co-supervised Doctoral Study Students Scholarships. The scholarship program is organized for the academic year 2023-2024.

The CSC-YNU Joint Scholarship Program is designed to support Chinese students who want to undertake a PhD program in Japan. Selected students will receive a tuition fee waiver available to begin at Yokohama National University.

Yokohama National University is a national university founded in Yokohama that focuses on producing and transmitting world-class research in subjects fundamental to peace and human welfare and issues faced by the community and industry. YNU was established with a special fund from the Government of Japan, administered by the World Bank, for training government officials from developing countries with engineering backgrounds.

• Acceptable Course or Subjects: The students can apply for a doctoral study program at Yokohama National University.
• Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
• Being enrolled as a doctoral student at any of the universities with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on student exchange with YNU under which students can attend YNU without paying additional tuition, or at any of the universities that were designated as the “Project 211” institutions.
• Having demonstrated excellent academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.30 (out of 3.00) or above in a master’s program.
• Being proficient in Japanese or English language and meeting one of the following conditions:
• Intending to receive research advice from the academic advisor of YNU between 6 and 24 months of admission to YNU as a special research doctoral student.
• Having asked the academic advisor of their choice about research details, length of the research period, acceptance conditions, and the like, and having obtained permission to apply and the Conditional Acceptance Form before submitting their application.

• Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
• Application Form and copy of passport
• Field of Study and Research Plan [Research Proposal]
• Academic transcripts for all academic years of university attended
• Academic Performance Entry Sheet
• Certificate of graduation or completion or degree certificate of the university attended
• The document that certifies that the applicant is ranked top 10% or 30% in the department of the graduate school attended
• Official Recommendation letter from a high-ranking person (such as Dean or Director) at the current graduate school attended
• Abstract of the thesis
• Documents that demonstrate the linguistic ability of the applicant, which meets one of the conditions
• Admission Requirements: The candidates must meet the admission requirements of the PhD program they wish to join at Yokohama National University.
• Language Requirement: Being proficient in Japanese or English language and meeting one of the following conditions:
• Having passed N2 or N1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or obtained an English language proficiency test score equivalent to CEFR level B2 or higher.
• Having been awarded a master’s degree from an institution where the medium of instruction was in Japanese or English.
• Judged by YNU, proficiency in either Japanese or English is equivalent to that stated in (1).
