The Fraser Basin Council and the Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Committee are warmly accepting applications for the Elizabeth Henry Scholarship Fund for Communities and Environmental Health.

The Elizabeth Henry Scholarship is open to full-time graduate students or students whose proposed research is based in British Columbia. Canadian, Permanent Resident, and International students are eligible.

The Fraser Basin Council (FBC) is a charitable non-profit society. Established in 1997, FBC is a collaboration of four orders of government (federal, provincial, local, and First Nations). FBC supports leaders in government, business, and community organizations in finding collaborative solutions to tough issues and promising opportunities.

Why apply to this program? The goal of these projects should be to support indigenous and non-indigenous communities in their efforts to improve air quality, environmental health, or environmental sustainability in British Columbia (BC).

Elizabeth Henry Scholarship for Communities and Environmental Health in Canada.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for masters and PhD programs on research projects that are addressing environmental health issues and promote environmental sustainability through cooperative community initiatives.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • The applicant must be a full-time graduate student for at least one semester before being awarded the scholarship
  • The student’s proposed research project must focus on working in partnership with one or more Indigenous and/or non-Indigenous British Columbia communities that address air quality and environmental health issues and/or promote environmental sustainability through cooperative initiatives.
  • The project must have well-defined objectives and research methodologies as well as tangible project outcomes that provide direct and ethically sound benefits to the community.
  • Preference will be given to significant and innovative projects
  • Preference will be given to projects that directly engage the community and where strong community support and buy-in are demonstrated.

How to Apply

Applications for the 2023 Scholarship are now open!

  • How to Apply: Applications are made online. As an applicant, they will be asked to provide basic contact information, information on previous experience, and a project description (max 750 words).
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants will also be asked to provide digital copies of the following:
  • Undergraduate transcript
  • Transcript of graduate courses to date (if applicable), and
  • Two signed letters of reference on official letterhead evaluating your capabilities and/or the significance and feasibility of your research project. One letter should be from your academic supervisor, while the second may be an academic, employer, or community partner reference (both letters sent directly from the references by email).
  • Note: Each letter of reference is limited to 500 words. As all documents must be submitted online, applicants may provide a PDF or scan of their transcript.
  • Admission Requirements: NA
  • Language Requirement: English language skills are required.

Benefits

The Elizabeth Henry Scholarship is a yearly award. The university will provide all the following:  In 2023, the award amount increased to $4000.
