The University of Kent is delighted to offer EPSRC Studentships to exceptional international students undertaking a full-time Computer Science – PhD study or to home students on a part-time basis.

The funding opportunity starting in September 2023 is open to talented home and international students for the 2023-24 academic year in the UK. Successful applicants will receive scholarships, including a doctoral stipend for 3.5 years, tuition fees at the home rate, and access to further research support funding.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities, including home/UK and EU countries.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for Computer Science – PhD – full-time at Canterbury.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • Applicants should have a first or upper-second-class honours degree in a relevant subject and, ideally, a Master’s degree or equivalent.
  • A first or 2.1 degree or advanced/specialist taught MSc in computer science or a related discipline (such as mathematics, business studies, or electronics, as long as the degree has a strong computing component).
  • Applicants should expect to obtain a Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding research potential.
  • The studentships are open to Home and Overseas (including EU) students.
  • To be classed as a Home student, candidates must meet the RCUK residency criteria.

UK residential conditions:

  • Be a UK National (meeting UKRI residency requirements), or
  • Have settled status, or
  • Have pre-settled status (meeting residency requirement) or
  • Have indefinite leave to remain or enter.

  • How to Apply: To be considered for the scholarship program, all applicants must apply for a Computer Science PhD.
  • Supporting Documents: To support the application, applicants must submit the following:
  • Explain reasons for study/outline research proposal
  • Provide details/evidence of qualifications
  • Provide two academic references
  • Provide other personal information and supporting documentation.
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a first or upper-second-class honours degree in a relevant subject and, ideally, a Master’s degree or equivalent. Applicants must meet the full criteria of entry requirements.
  • Language Requirement: The University of Kent requires all non-native speakers of English to meet the minimum standard of proficiency in written and spoken English before beginning a postgraduate degree. Check here for English language requirements.

The University of Kent will provide all the following:

  • These scholarships include a doctoral stipend (equivalent to the Research Councils UK National Minimum Doctoral Stipend, £17,668 2022/23 rate, 2023/24 to be announced) for 3.5 years, tuition fees at the home rate and access to further research support funding.
  • If you apply as an international candidate, Kent will waive the difference between Home and International fees.
  • UKRI caps the number of international studentships awarded per cohort at 30%.
