Erasmus Mundus masters programme in Journalism, Media and Globalisation, 2015

Applications are invited for Erasmus Mundas masters programmes in Journalism, Media and Globalisation available for EU and Non-EU students. The bursaries are divided into category A (for third country (non-EU) students) and B scholarships (for European (EU/EEA) students and others). All Mundus Journalism students can apply for Erasmus+ stipends for the second year of their Master‡s studies, if they have not been granted an Erasmus Mundus scholarship or received Erasmus+ funding within their BA studies. The first year is spent in Denmark at Aarhus University and the Danish School of Media and Journalism and a second specialism year at one of the programme’s other four European partners. Some students also have the option of spending a semester abroad at one of the programme’s non-European partner universities during the second semester of the first year. The application deadline is January 10, 2015.

Eligibility:
-Erasmus Mundus Category A scholarships for third country (non-EU) students: Category A scholarships can be awarded to students from countries other than the 28 EU member states (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Nederlands, Portugal, the UK, Sweden, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain) and the EEA-EFTA states (Norway, Lichtenstein, Iceland). Furthermore, you must comply with the 12 months rule: you are not a resident nor have carried out your main activity (studies, training or work) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in the above mentioned countries. The five-year reference period for this rule is calculated backwards as from the application submission deadline. Additional Category A opportunities are expected to be available for a limited number of students from: Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, DPR Korea, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam; Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan); Middle East (Iran, Iraq, Yemen); Latin America (For Latin America at least 25% of the students must come from Lower Middle Income Countries: Bolivia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Paraguay; a maximum of 35% of students from Brazil and Mexico together and 40% come from the following countries: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela); South Africa; ENI-South (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia); ENI-East (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Territory of Ukraine as recognised by international law) and Gulf countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates).
-Erasmus Mundus Category B scholarships for European (EU/EEA) students and others: Category B scholarships can be awarded to any student who does not fulfil the criteria for a category A scholarship. The Category B opportunities are connected to the ‘Study Abroad‡ programme at our non-European partners.
-Erasmus+ stipends (all students can apply): All Mundus Journalism students can apply for Erasmus+ stipends for the second year of their Master‡s studies, if they have not been granted an Erasmus Mundus scholarship or received Erasmus+ funding within their BA studies.
-Students must have obtained a first higher education degree before the course start of the Mundus Journalism.
-Individuals who have already benefited from an Erasmus Mundus funding for a Master’s programme are not eligible for a second funding for another Erasmus Mundus Master’s programme.
-Students benefiting from an Erasmus Mundus scholarship cannot benefit from another Community grant while pursuing their Erasmus Mundus Master‡s studies.

Scholarship is open for both EU and non-EU students.

Description:  The Mundus Journalism Master’s is a two-year, truly transnational degree providing a solid foundation for analysing and reporting global changes. Building on journalistic skills, the degree offers a unique combination of journalism, media studies and the social sciences. An international consortium of universities and media outlets work closely together to run the Mundus Journalism programme.
-Erasmus Mundus Scholarships: The Mundus Journalism Consortium is able to offer a limited number of ‘Erasmus Mundus‡ student scholarships for students entering the programme from 2012 – 2016. The bursaries are divided into category A and B scholarships.
-Erasmus+ stipends (all students can apply): All Mundus Journalism students can apply for Erasmus+ stipends for the second year of their Master‡s studies, if they have not been granted an Erasmus Mundus scholarship or received Erasmus+ funding within their BA studies. Information and assistance on the Erasmus+ stipends will be provided at Aarhus University after the start of the course. The stipend is about 230 Euros per month for 10 months. So far all eligible students have received this stipend.

What does it cover? Category A opportunities are expected to be worth €48,000 for the 2015-2017 programme. The fee is subtracted from the scholarship. There is free insurance for Mundus stipend holders. Category B opportunities are expected to be worth €23,000 for the 2015-2017 programme. Information and assistance on the Erasmus+ stipends will be provided at Aarhus University after the start of the course. The stipend is about 230 Euros per month for 10 months. So far all eligible students have received this stipend.

Selection Criteria: During the admission process, all applications are assessed and graded in each of the categories below:
-Academic background: The applicant‡s academic ability, previous academic record and academic references.
-Journalism experience: Based on the applicant‡s examples of journalistic work and references.
-Motivation; Based on the applicant‡s personal statement – strong, clear statement that demonstrates the applicant‡s motivation, commitment and relevant skills. The motivation must include an explicit argument for the first choice specialism.
-Life experience: Based on the applicant‡s personal statement, CV and reference letters – cultural awareness, organisational skills, language ability, international experience, etc.
-Language skills: In addition, applicants are expected to have a minimum Academic IELTS band score of 7.0 if they are not native English speakers (we only accept IELTS tests). Applicants who want to study at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chili are expected to submit a certified copy of their DELE results or other documentation of their Spanish skills if they are not native Spanish speakers.
