The University of Galway, College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Celtic Studies, is pleased to announce the availability of fully funded PhD scholarships associated with the GAELFAM project. This scholarship aims to support qualified candidates in pursuing doctoral research in the field of applied linguistics and sociolinguistics, focusing on the linguistic experiences of multilingual families in the Irish Gaeltacht.

Applicants must hold an honors BA with a minimum degree result of a high 2.1 or international equivalent in relevant fields, along with proficiency in English demonstrated by a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 for non-native speakers.

    • Desirable qualifications include fluency in Irish, a Master’s-level qualification, experience working with adolescents, fluency in a language other than Irish or English, and experience conducting ethnographic research.
