PhD Scholarship in 2D Materials as Photocatalysts for H2 Production - An Experimental Investigation

About

This project is for a student who wants to study how to make 2D nanomaterials for green hydrogen production. This is important because we need to find ways to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and help the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Solar energy is a sustainable solution, and photocatalysis can use solar energy (with a catalyst) to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.

The goal of this Ph.D. project is to design, engineer, and validate high-performance 2D nanomaterials for green hydrogen production. The 2D nanomaterials will be made using a clean synthetic technology that is environmentally friendly, rapid, and controllable.

The project will make use of research facilities related to Materials Synthesis (CHFS), Characterization (Raman, XRD, AFM, SEM, UV- Vis spectroscopy, steady-state, and time-resolved spectroscopy), H2 production and testing (solar light simulator and gas chromatography).

These facilities will help the student to understand how to make and test the 2D nanomaterials so that they can be used for green hydrogen production. This research is important because it can help us to find cleaner and more sustainable ways to produce energy.

Eligibility

Applicants must be of outstanding academic merit and should have (or be expected to gain) either a 1st class Honours degree or an upper second class (or the international equivalent)or an MSc with distinction in a related field such as Chemistry, Materials Science, or Engineering related disciplines.
