Ghent University is pleased to announce a prestigious International Doctoral Fellowship opportunity within the Department of Criminology, Criminal Law and Social Law. This fellowship aims to support outstanding candidates in pursuing advanced research in the field of law, specifically focusing on the legal aspects of healthcare choices in times of scarcity.
The doctoral fellowship will support a four-year research project under the supervision of Prof. Tom Balthazar and Prof. Sylvie Tack. The research will focus on the legal framework surrounding healthcare choices during times of scarcity, particularly addressing issues arising from crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aims to conduct a comparative legal analysis across European countries, supplemented by empirical research within the Belgian healthcare system.

Acceptable Course or Subjects: Master’s degree in Law
Admissible Criteria: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Law with excellent academic performance.
Proficiency in Belgian and European law is required.
Demonstrated interest in health law and related legal disciplines is preferred.
Strong writing and presentation skills in Dutch and English are essential.
Ability to independently conduct research projects and incorporate feedback.
Effective communication and teamwork skills, coupled with independence, creativity, and initiative.

Full-time doctoral fellowship, initially for 12 months and extendable up to 48 months based on performance evaluation
Commencement of contract on May 1, 2024
Fellowship amount equivalent to 100% of the net salary of an AAP member, determined based on family status and seniority
